About Our Parish
A Short History of Our Parish
Our parish was established in 1922 with the appointment of Fr Andrew Fekety as pastor. The cornerstone for the church was laid in 1923. The old rectory, later the convent, and now apartments, was completed in 1924. The main church was completed in 1929 and that same year Fr Michael Begany was appointed pastor. In 1926 land was purchased for a cemetery. The parish school opened in 1938 and the next year the new rectory was completed. Fr Michael Messaros was appointed pastor in 1962. The interior of the church was completely renovated in 1972 in celebration of the 50th anniversary. Msgr Messaros retired in 1980 and Fr Michael Stone was appointed pastor. In 1982 our parish school was consolidated with Our Lady of Hungary Regional School and land for a parish parking lot was acquired. In 1992 Fr Stephen Radocha was appointed pastor. In 1997, as part of the 75th anniversary, an elevator was added and the entrance lobby, cry room, choir, and confessional were renovated. Fr John Mraz was appointed pastor in 2002. Improvements continued to the exterior of the church and a new floor was installed in the church social hall. Our present pastor, Fr Francis Straka, joined us in July, 2008. We continue to give thanks to almighty God for eighty-seven years of growth in faith and service.
